Company background
SMARTBROKER+ is a German online broker operated by wallstreet:online capital AG, a subsidiary of Smartbroker Holding AG. The retail brokerage launched in 2019 as Smartbroker and rebranded to SMARTBROKER+ in October 2023 with a fully redesigned platform and mobile app. The company is headquartered in Berlin and uses Baader Bank AG as its clearing and settlement custodian. Stiftung Warentest named the depot a cost leader across all tested depot sizes in Finanztest 11/2024.
Fees and pricing
Custody, account maintenance, deposits and withdrawals are free with no inactivity fee. Trades via gettex cost EUR 0 for orders of EUR 500 or more and EUR 1 below that threshold. Trades at other exchanges including Tradegate and Lang and Schwarz cost EUR 4 flat. A currency conversion spread of approximately 0.25% applies to foreign-currency trades. Savings plans execute free for ETFs, ETCs, stocks, funds and crypto ETPs. The minimum savings rate is EUR 1. Crypto trades cost 0.90% of the trade value. Margin lending runs at 3-month EURIBOR plus 3.00% per annum. Cash balances earn interest on a variable rate linked to the ECB deposit facility rate (1.75% p.a. as of mid-2025, subject to change, and conditional on at least three trades per quarter) up to EUR 100,000.
Regulation and safety
wallstreet:online capital AG holds a securities institution licence under German law and is supervised by BaFin. Baader Bank AG, also BaFin-regulated, holds client securities as ring-fenced Sondervermogen separate from the broker's own balance sheet. Cash deposits are covered by the statutory deposit guarantee up to EUR 100,000, with additional protection through the voluntary fund of the German banking association.

SMARTBROKER+ is available as a web app and iOS and Android apps. Account opening is digital via VideoIdent. The platform gives access to over 40,000 stocks, around 3,300 ETFs, over 18,000 funds, over 40,000 bonds and more than 4.6 million derivatives. Cryptocurrency trading covers 41 coins via Tangany, a BaFin-regulated custodian. Weekend trading is available on Saturdays from 14:00 to 19:00; weekday trading runs from 07:30 to 23:00. No demo account is offered and the interface is available only in German.
Pros and cons
SMARTBROKER+'s main advantages are free custody, no inactivity or withdrawal fees, commission-free gettex trading for orders of EUR 500 or more and free savings plans across all product types. The main drawbacks are no demo account, a German-only interface, a EUR 4 fee at exchanges other than gettex, approximately 0.25% currency conversion cost and mixed customer support reviews.
