Company background
Scalable Capital was founded in Munich, Germany in 2014 by Erik Podzuweit, Florian Prucker, Adam French and Prof. Dr. Stefan Mittnik. The company launched its robo-advisor service in 2016 and expanded into self-directed brokerage in 2020. In September 2025, Scalable Capital Bank AG received a full banking licence from the ECB and now operates as a CRR credit institution supervised by BaFin and the Deutsche Bundesbank. The platform serves over one million customers across Germany and several other European markets.
Fees and pricing
Scalable Capital offers two broker plans. The FREE plan has no monthly fee and charges EUR 0.99 per trade on gettex and European Investor Exchange. Eligible PRIME ETFs (Amundi, iShares, Vanguard, Xtrackers) in orders of EUR 250 or more are commission-free on the FREE plan. The PRIME+ plan costs EUR 4.99 per month and makes all trades free for orders of EUR 250 or more; orders below EUR 250 cost EUR 0.99. Xetra orders cost EUR 3.99 plus a 0.01% venue fee on all plans.
All savings plans execute for free on both plans and can start from EUR 1 per month. Crypto ETP trades carry a spread surcharge of 0.99% on FREE and 0.69% on PRIME+. Regulation and safety
Scalable Capital Bank AG is supervised by BaFin and the Deutsche Bundesbank as a CRR credit institution. Client cash is covered under the German deposit guarantee scheme up to EUR 100,000 per bank. PRIME+ users receive enhanced protection of up to 5 x EUR 100,000 across multiple partner banks. Client securities are held as segregated assets separate from Scalable Capital's own balance sheet.
Platform experience
Scalable Capital offers a web platform and mobile apps for iOS and Android. The platform supports market, limit, stop and stop-limit orders valid for up to 360 days. Automated savings plans, watchlists and portfolio monitoring are available on both plans. PRIME+ adds the Insights analytics module, Smart Predict for limit order probability, unlimited price alerts and a securities comparison tool. No demo account is available. Pros and cons
Scalable Capital's main strengths are free savings plans on all plans, no account maintenance or inactivity fees, and a combined broker and robo-advisor offering. The PRIME+ flat rate suits investors who trade regularly or want enhanced deposit protection across multiple partner banks. Key drawbacks include the EUR 0.99 per-trade fee on the FREE plan for non-eligible assets, Xetra fees on all plans, a crypto ETP spread surcharge, no demo account and limited advanced charting tools.
